The Creosote Bush has many unique mechanisms to compete for resources in harsh, nutrient depleted environments. This plant is also responsible for that INCREDIBLE after rain smell named that you get in the desert areas where it grows (mostly in Sonoran desert regions). You can grow a bush in your yard to enjoy the desert scent or hang some small branches in your shower to recreate this effect.
Sometimes referred to as "Greasewood" and the "Drug Store of the Desert" by Native American tribes, it has traditionally been used to treat numerous ailments.
Creosote is the longest living plant known today. The longest living known specimen resides in California. It has been named King Clone, and scientists estimate it to be over 11,600 years old. In order to survice this long is such a oppresive environment, the Creosote has evolved many survival mechanisms which allow it to thrive in sandy and harsh desert environments.
The plant is native to Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, and the southwestern tip of Utah.

-Scarify the hull of the seed gently. Be careful not to damage the seed inside of the seed hull.
-Soak for 30 hours in room temperature water
-Sow in well-draining soil
-Cover with 1/2 inch of soil
-Covering the pot so that light does not enter
-Keep soil moist but not soggy
-Once the seed has germinated you can translplant it (carefuly) to a sandy soil
